  • Winifred Mak, MD, PhD

    Dr. Winifred Mak completed medical school at the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St. Thomas Hospitals (London, UK) and completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Addenbrooke’s Hospital (Cambridge, UK) and St. Mary’s Hospital (London, UK). After residency, she received her PhD in Genetics from Imperial College (London, UK). She then completed a second residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles) and completed her fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Pennsylvania. She was recruited to be an NIH Research Scholar at Yale School of Medicine focusing her research on reproductive biology and discovered a protein which is important in early embryo development. is an Assistant Professor at Dell Medical School, UT Austin and is a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist with a special interest in Recurrent Pregnancy Loss. She is the director of the Early Pregnancy Loss program at UT Health Austin.

  • Lee Hullender Rubin, DAOM

    Dr. Lee Hullender Rubin graduated with her master’s degree from Bastyr University (2001) and completed training in residence at the Shanghai Traditional Chinese Medicine University (2001). She completed her clinical doctorate (2009) and an NIH funded post-doctoral research fellowship (2012) from the Oregon College of [o] Medicine (OC[o]M). She also completed a post-doctoral clinical research certificate from OHSU (2013). She is board certified by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and [o] Medicine and the California Acupuncture Board. She is a fellow of the American Board of [o] Reproductive Medicine and is the first acupuncturist to also become a fellow of the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Diseases.

    She has taught in the UCSF Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. She was Adjunct Faculty in the doctoral programs at OC[o]M, Bastyr University, American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the New Zealand School of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Seattle Institute of East Asian Medicine, and Visiting Research Faculty at OHSU.

  • Harvey Kliman, MD, PhD

    Dr. Harvey J. Kliman has, in addition to an M.D., a Ph.D. in cellular biochemistry from the University of Chicago. He is currently a Research Scientist in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Yale University School of Medicine and the Director of the Reproductive and Placental Research Unit with a special interest in infertility and pregnancy complications. He has over thirty years of anatomic pathology training with particular emphasis in electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry, endometrial and placental pathology. He has over ten patents, including the patent for the Endometrial Function Test® (EFT®)—“The soil test for the endometrium®” and “Method and system for determining placental volume.” His contributions in the field of placental research include the development of the “Kliman” method of trophoblast purification, research into the mechanisms of trophoblast differentiation and invasion, the role and genesis of syncytial knots, the discovery of placental fetal fibronectin, and more recently, the clinical utility of abnormalities in placental villous growth patterns, especially trophoblast invaginations and inclusions, to diagnose genetic abnormalities in pregnancy, including autism.
